A Few of My Favorites…

This February has been full of changes, mainly in the weather. Spring-like temps and yellow daffodils one day, and freezing downpours the next. February is not one of my favorite months of the year. It’s that place of in between, the end of winter with a hint of spring around the corner. It seems to bounce me around, keeping me off balance. So, a few of my favorites are as up and down as the February weather patterns (click on the highlighted links):

My favorite podcast episode is Knowing Faith podcast, #30 – How to Read the Bible

I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to this topic, but this podcast does have some really useful information and practical resources to help you out if you are struggling with that daily reading plan that you may or may not have started at the beginning of the year. Check it out, I promise it won’t disappoint.

Following along the nerd trail is my Favorite app – Read Scripture app

This came out of listening to the above podcast I mentioned. I downloaded this app and it has really changed the way I view the Scriptures. It has “fun” videos you can watch from The Bible Project people which help to explain overviews of the book you are reading along with some big picture concepts of the Bible, such as the image of God or the covenants. It also provides a Psalm for reading and meditation that goes along with your daily portion of Scripture. If you have tried and failed to read the Bible through in a year, then give this app a try. Listen to the podcast and those good people will explain it all a lot better than I do.

“No Guarantees.” Parenting is hard, and often we believe that if we parent well that our children will turn out well. This thought-provoking article points out that there are no guarantees. What’s the end game here? That if we do our job right, that they will reflect well on us?

Wham Bam Can of Ham! Humor is good for the soul, and I often find that in The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

My last favorite is the song, “He Knows My Name,” by Tasha Cobbs Leonard. I heard a woman sing it acapella at a women’s conference I attended this past week. It blessed my soul, and hope that it blesses yours.

Just a Few of My Favorites…

Since I love to keep things practical, here are some links I am sharing with you in hopes that it will equip, inspire, and motivate you to think outside your box. Click and enjoy:

Teach your teen how to read their Bible

Parents of teenagers, take advantage of this resource. This is one of those things I wish we would have done. My kids are grown now, so I’m passing this one to you. The Village Church does a great job at equipping its members, and they allow the rest of us to benefit from it, too.

The State of the Union is divided. How should we respond as Christians?

Knowing how to respond to our nation’s divisiveness in a way that won’t build a wall between you and your neighbor (sorry for the political pun) is an extreme challenge. This article gives some good guidelines to help you navigate these shark infested waters.

Valentine’s Day and Flowers!

It’s February and today in Texas I’m wearing flip flops, which makes me long for spring, which makes me long for flowers. And with Valentine’s Day around the corner, maybe you could use some inspiration! Check out Floret Flowers’ blog – may it become your happy place too!

This is a feel good story, because in a world with bad news – we need good news!

Good Morning America! recently aired a story about “Neighbor’s Table.” May it bring some inspiration – practically loving your neighbor and building community by inviting people to your table. Love it!
